Marc Ranger is the Quebec’s Regional Director for the Canadian Union of Public Employees. He has been with CUPE since 1998.
From 2007 to 2012, he was the Chief negotiator for the Montreal’s blue collars union representing the 7 500 outside workers at a time when pension issues were emerging. In fact, prior to the legislation imposing a restructuration of the municipal pension plans, It was one of the very first settlement reached.
In 2014 and 2015, he was the leader of a huge Coalition, the first one in Quebec representing all the municipal employees (policemen, firefighters, blues collars, inside workers, professionnals and transportation workers). The Coalition syndicale pour la libre négociation was created as a response to the mayors and members of the Government who wanted and still want to imposed the working conditions of their municipal workers. The defence of good defined benefits pension plans is key for him.
